Ep56: How to Build Coalitions at the Executive Level - Alan Constantian

Topic:

When you are a leader your job is to get things done through the efforts of your team members. But, what do you do when you need the effort and resources of people who don't report to you? Today's guest shares how to build coalitions to help you reach your, & your organization's, goals.

Today's Guest:

Dr. Constantian is a retired VA SES member who returned to service with VA in May 2020 in a part time capacity. He is assigned to the Office of Technology Integration, where he uses his eight years of executive experience with the VA and other experience, particularly in the Health IT area, to address longstanding and strategic matters of interest to the CIO, such as the strategic use of middleware in the VA, the GAO High Risk List report, and VA responses to the COVID emergency. He is also involved in the OIT leadership development program and is sometimes called upon to speak on behalf of the Department at public forums. Prior to his retirement in January 2020, he was the Deputy CIO for Account Management, where he led the Account Management Office in their work with business partners across the Department. Prior to that, from 2016-2019, he served as DCIO (Account Manager for Health), advising the VA CIO on all matters associated with IT support for clinical operations, research and policy to the Veterans Health Administration, developing multi-year IT budgets in collaboration with VHA colleagues, establishing Joint Business Plans for critical activities, and addressing critical operational issues, when necessary.
